Carol Harty has been a pet Obedience Instructor since 1997. She apprenticed in dog training with Jean Palas, and assisted Susan Ryan and Cindy Kean in Agility classes as well. Her latest achievement has been graduating with honors from the San Francisco SPCA’s CTC program in 2007, under the auspices of noted dog trainer and author, Jean Donaldson. She has also taken many classes and worked with Susan Garrett, another excellent Canadian dog trainer.
An avid reader and seminar attendee, Carol is always striving to learn the latest in positive reinforcement based, science based training. In 1999, Carol was endorsed by the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors, and also attended the first ever Instructors Training Course held at Sue Sternberg’s Rondout Kennels. She also attended seminars with world famous animal trainers Bob and Marian Bailey, where she honed her clicker training skills training chickens. Carol and Marcia Bradt also attended one of the early Clicker Training seminars put on by Karen Pryor in 1997 at Gail Fisher’s All Dogs Gym.
Currently, Carol shares her life with her husband and 2 dogs. A ten year old Australian Shepherd, retired Agility dog and dog for all seasons, Splash. Also Tucker, a 7 year old Border Collie she obtained from Glen Highland Farm Border Collie rescue.
An AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, Carol has put on over 40 tests in the Buffalo area, helping countless people and dogs achieve that goal. She has taught clicker classes, therapy dog classes, puppy socialization classes, family companion classes and Canine Good Citizen preparation classes. Throughout the years, her greatest enjoyment has come from helping people learn to train their dogs to be the wonderful companions they were born to be.
